The function of the facilitators, main protagonists of the intervention, is to carry out inclusion visits and follow-up visits. Belonging to or being close to the community of garimpeiros, being fluent in Portuguese and having sufficient literacy skills for tablet and smartphone use were essential competencies.
They received theoretical training on :
- malaria,
- ethics and rights of participants,
- training participants,
- data collection,
- use of digital tools,
then a practical training on the field which proved a more efficient way of learning for facilitators.
After two years of work on the field in the Malakit distribution sites, here are their opinions and feedback about their experience as facilitators.
